Mr. Pocha Brahmananda Reddy

Mr. Pocha Brahmananda Reddy, S/O Mr. Pocha Venkata Reddy, born on Jan 01, 1959, is a resident of Uyyalawada Village & Mandal of Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh. As a true Indian with goals to revolutionize the agricultural face of the country, Mr. Reddy pioneered the Cotton Hybrid commercialization in India. He blended scientific methodologies and technologies with farming procedures to produce high-yielding cotton hybrid seeds. In addition, he introduced warehousing technology to protect the quality of produce and value.

His Early Life and Education

Hailing from an agricultural family, Mr. Reddy’s first love has always been to serve Mother Nature. Hence, he became deeply interested in serving the farmer fraternity. With a profound knowledge about farming that he obtained from his family legacy, Mr. Reddy’s interest in the subject, and his social goals, led him to pursue post-graduation in Agricultural Economics. He was awarded the degree in the year 1985 from Kanpur University. With a keen interest in agriculture and allied business, Reddy initiated hybrid seeds production and processing activities.

His Formative Years and Key Strengths that helped him

While his family knowledge and formal education strengthened his skillsets and capabilities, Mr. Reddy’s eclectic experience of 35 years made him a strong personality that farmer communities look up to for guidance and inspiration. He is dedicated to attending to the issues of the community without any ado. As good as 10000 farming families in Kurnool & Kadapa divisions is in direct contact with Mr. Reddy. He is meticulously involved in community welfare activities and has advanced a wide spectrum of contacts with the urban society. He has developed promising business relations with several banks, businesses, and multinational companies like Monsanto India Limited, Syngenta India Limited, UPL Limited, and the likes.

Honors and Recognitions

  • Honored with Rashtriya Ratan Award by the Global Economic Council, New Delhi, for outstanding contribution to the economic growth of rural India
  • Served as the Hon’ble member of the Board of Management, Acharya N.G. Ranga, Agricultural University, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh for six years

  • K.Ravindranath

    He graduated from Presidency College, Chennai with B.Sc. in biology. He earned a B.Sc. in agriculture from Agricultural College, Bapatla, and a M.Sc. in agriculture from Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Hyderabad, with specialization in genetics and plant breeding.

      He worked at the Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) Regional Agricultural Cotton Research Station for 36 years from 1959 to 1996 in various capacities. He     published more than 60 scientific papers in the Indian Journal of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Journal of Indian Society for Cotton Improvement, Madras Agricultural Journal, Andhra     Agricultural Journal, as well as several review papers pertaining to cotton improvement.

    During his work at ANGRAU, he developed ten new cotton varieties (Narasimha, Aravinda, Big boll hirsutum cotton-HYPS 156, and others) and two hybrids (NHH 390 and NCA 216) of cotton, which were released and notified by the Central Variety Release Committees of the Indian government. The Narasimha variety was used as a parent line in a number of hybrids, while NCA-216 was developed for increased yield under rain-fed conditions.

    After retiring from ANGARU, in 2002 he joined with Bharathi seeds as an executive director, Research. He developed an inter-se-hirsutum versatile superior cotton hybrid, Brahma which was the first hybrid cultivated by farmers from the private sector since 1997, with a claimed yield potential of 32 quintal per hectare.

    He also developed a superior hirsutum cotton hybrid, "ATAL" with a claimed yield potential of 34 quintals per hectare.

    He also developed a 'mixed pollen technique' to induce variability and genetic diversity in cotton using mixed pollen of desired types for developing genotypes with drought tolerance, big boll, fiber length with strength, and pest tolerance coupled with higher yield

    Pocha Janardhan Reddy

    Son of Brahmananda Reddy garu. After completing his education as a graduate in Agriculture from Tamilnadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore. To attain the work experience worked in sales & marketing department in Syngenta India Limited for two years. At present he is the managing director of Bharathi seeds Private Limited managing all toll production activities since 2014.

    Kesireddy Venkata Siva Reddy

    Graduated in Agricultural sciences from Kanpur University in 1985 after attaining 20 years of rich experience in sugar industry as chief Agriculture officer, joined Bharathi Group in 2005. Main pillar in carving and establishing the post harvest infrastructure in Hyderabad & Nandyal.

    Pocha Madhava Reddy

    Graduated in Mining Engineering from Nagpur university in 1994. Joined family business and working with Bharathi group since 1994. Having rich experience in planning & execution of new projects among group.
